Had a lovely Friday afternoon a few weeks ago where I was privileged to be asked to photograph Fay’s Birthday with her family. Jenny contacted me and we arranged a shoot later that week, in Nelson for the special occasion.

I very much enjoyed everyone’s company and their sense of humor clicked with me immediately. Now not a typical shoot, the family requested I shoot candid shots of them enjoying each other’s company, not wanting anything too posed and quickly dismissing the idea of a portrait image as too formal. We wandered the grounds of the resort on Monaco where they were spending the weekend. Celebrating with a glass, lots of stories and laughter I found it hard at times to actually take a photo between bursting out with laughter.

I love how photography can connect, it can connect you to complete strangers in a matter of seconds, I love capturing moments that give the essence of a relationship that has been there for years. As no doubt Fay’s family would attest, a lovely way to remember such a beautiful connection for years to come by just a glimpse through a photograph.

The images were very real, unique and I love looking back and feeling a bit special knowing I was there and was able to capture some awesome humans.
